Aus den GroBen folgen liber die Einheiten die Zahlenwerte, nieht umgekehrt. Dies halte ieh fiir die entseheidende Erkenntnis W ALLOTS. - Dureh die allgemeinen GroBengleiehungen werden die allgemeinen GroBen aufeinander zuriiekgefiihrt; einige GroBen bleiben unabhangig. Es ist offenbar entseheidend, ob man liber die Anzahl der voneinander unabhangigen GroBen zu einem sieheren Urteil kommen kann. 1st diese Anzahl mehr oder weniger ins Ermessen ge- stellt, so wird die theoretisehe Elektrizitatslehre und die praktisehe Ein- heitenlehre ein urn so vielfaltigeres und verwiekelteres Bild gewahren, je mehr versehiedene Anzahlen gleiehbcrechtigt behandelt werden; kann aber die Anzahl unabhiingiger GroBen, die in bestimmter 'Veise not- wendig und ausreiehend ist, durch Anwendung bestimmter Grundsiitze methodiseh gefunden werden, so ist diese Anzahl besonders gereeht- fertigt. Legt man diese und nur diese Anzahl zugrunde, so wird die Darstellung der theoretisehen Elektrizitatslehre und dcr praktisehen Einheitenlehre einheitlieh und iibersiehtlieh. -- leh habe diese Leit- gedanken, ihre Begriindung, ihre Anwendungen und Folgen in dieser Sehrift kiirzehalber "GroBenlehre" genannt.
