Die Frage nach den Urspriingen der Chemotherapie fUhrt auch zu den Schwachen, die bereits im Konzept dieser therapeutischen Disziplin liegen und die der An- wendung der Chemotherapie Grenzen setzen. Von dies en Grenzen und von Moglichkeiten, sie zu uberwinden, ist im letzten Kapitel die Rede. DaB ein Text wie der vorliegende nicht alle Aspekte der Chemotherapie in gleicher Ausftihrlichkeit behandeln kann, versteht sich fast von selbst. Dieses Buch enthalt keine enzyklopadische Darstellung der Chemotherapie, sondern die Erlauterung einiger ihrer prinzipiellen Probleme. DaB die hierzu herangezogenen Beispiele vorwiegend aus der antimikrobiellen und antineoplastischen Chemo- therapie stammen, hangt mit den personlichen Interessen und Erfahrungen des Autors zusammen. An einigen Stellen des Buches werden Fragen erortert, die noch ungelost sind. Zuweilen wird in einer kontroversen Frage sogar Partei ergriffen. Der Autor hofft, die "Subjektivitat" derartiger AuBerungen deutlich genug kenntlich ge- macht zu haben. 1m ubrigen dilrften so1che gelegentlich unterlaufenen Abwei- chungen yom Tugendpfad der Lehrbuchtradition der Lebendigkeit der Darstel- lung zugute kommen. Dieses Buch mochte nicht nur informieren, es will auch anregen und zum Widerspruch herausfordern.
