Diese Rechte haben schon zu der Zeit, da sie zum erstenmal unserer Kenntnis zugänglich werden, einen Jahrtausende alten Entwicklungsgang hinter sich, der bei einem jeden eigenartig durch die besonderen Lebensbedingungen und Schicksale der Rechtsgenossen bestimmt gewesen war. Von hier aus erklärt sich, da vom Beginn der historischen Zeit an die germanischen Rechte in wesentlichen Beziehungen von einander abweichen, ja scharfe Gegensätze aufweisen, und da in keinem der Repräsentant eines germanischen Urrechts erblickt werden darf. Anderseits setzt sich in der historischen Zeit, entsprechend der Veränderung der Kultur überhaupt, die Veränderung der Sonderrechte fort, so da sich diese bald von einander noch weiter entfernen, bald aber auch einander nähern. Letzteres geschieht zum Teil dadurch, da ein Recht auf ein anderes einwirkt. Doch greift dieser Einflu nie so tief, da auch nur der Hauptsache nach das beeinflu te Recht vom einflie enden verdrängt worden wäre.\" [...] Karl von Amira war einer der gro en Rechtshistoriker des vergangenen Jahrhunderts.
