In den Werken, die sich mit dem Gebiet der Beleuchtungs- technik befassen, ist zumeist die Beschreibung der kiinstlichen Lichtquellen, sowie der MeBgerate und MeBverfahren, die zu deren naherer Untersuchung dienen, recht ausfiihrlich behandelt. Dagegen wird auf die Beleuchtungstechnik im eigentlichen Sinne, namlich auf die Beurteilung, Messung und Berechnung der Be- leuchtung fast stets nur kurz eingegangen. 1m allgemeinen verfahrt man ja auch bei der Vorausberechnung von Beleuch- tungsanlagen recht summarisch. Sehr oft verlaBt man sich auf das Ausprobieren nach der Ausfiihrung oder wohl auch auf das gute Gliick, daB man gerade das Richtige trifft. Friiher lag dies wohl hauptsachlich daran, daB es an einfachen Ver- fahren zur Berechnung der Beleuchtung fehlte, und daB an- dererseits Messungen der Beleuchtung nur selten ausgefiihrt wurden. Andererseits hatte die kiinstliche Beleuchtung noch nicht die hohe Bedeutung, die ihr heute zukommt, wo zugleich mit dem Aufkommen immer neuer, im Gebrauch sparsamerer Lichtquellen und mit dem Wettstreit der verschiedenen Be- leuchtungsarten das Lichtbediirfnis in erstaunlichem MaBe ge- wachsen ist. Bei den groBen Summen, die heute fUr die kiinst- Hche Beleuchtung ausgegeben werden, ist es wohl angebracht, wenn man sich eine Beleuchtungsanlage Hchon beim Projekt und auch nach deren Ausfiihrung daraufhin genauer ansieht, ob die gewiinschte Beleuchtung in ausreichendem MaBe und nicht mit unnotig hohen Kosten erreicht wird. Man beginnt daher in den letzten Jahren sowohl auf die Vorausberechnung der Beleuchtung wie auch auf die Ausfiihrung von Beleuchtungs- IV Vorwort messungen etwas mehr Wert als friiher zu legen.
