Die bisherigen Forschungen zur Druckersprache litten vor allem an zwei Defiziten: Sie verallgemeinerten vorschnell Einzelergebnisse (etwa durch die Vernachlässigung offizin- und druckortspezifischer Unterschiede), und sie berücksichtigten bei der Materialerhebung nicht den Setzerwechsel in den Drucken. Die vorliegende Arbeit behebt beide Mängel: Sie liefert eine differenzierte Analyse der Druckwerke Günther Zainers in ihrer genauen chronologischen Reihenfolge zwischen 1471 und 1478. Und sie stellt die Leistungsfähigkeit einer neuen Exzerptionsmethode unter Beweis, die graphematisch distinkte Differenzen bei einem Setzerwechsel in die Untersuchung einbezieht. Auf diese Weise gelingt es, die Druckersprache der ersten Augsburger Offizin als Grundlegung für die sprachhistorische Beschreibung weiterer Augsburger Offizinen erstmals differenziert darzustellen und ihre herausragende Leistung durch den Vergleich mit den Augsburger Schreibsprachen dieser Zeit zu bestimmen. Durch den neuen methodologischen Ansatz wird damit zugleich ein praktikables Modell für entsprechende Untersuchungen zu anderen Druckorten vorgelegt.
