Im modernen Handballspiel lastet ein hoher Entscheidungsdruck auf den Rückraumspielern. Sie entscheiden im gebundenen Positionsspiel häufig über Erfolg oder Misserfolg eines Angriffs. Damit die richtige Entscheidung im Bruchteil einer Sekunde getroffen werden kann, müssen im Training immer wieder Übungen aufgenommen werden, die dem Spieler mehrere Optionen bieten, um so die schnelle Entscheidungsfindung zu trainieren. Welche Wurfausführung ist optimal? Gehe ich als Ballhalter in die 1gegen1-Aktion und schlie e selbst ab oder spiele ich den Ball weiter, um eine Abschlusschance für einen Mitspieler zu erarbeiten? Gehe ich bei einer Aktion meines Mitspielers in die Kreuzbewegung oder hat ein Parallelsto die grö ere Erfolgsaussicht? Wie schnell und wie oft optimale Entscheidungen getroffen werden können, macht häufig den Unterschied aus und entscheidet so über den Erfolg eines Angriffs und einen erfolgreichen Spielausgang.

Die sechs in diesem Buch enthaltenen Trainingseinheiten stellen die Rückraumspieler immer wieder vor Situationen, in denen Entscheidungen getroffen werden müssen. In der ersten Trainingseinheit steht dabei die Entscheidung für eine Wurfvariante im Vordergrund, sowie die Entscheidung, wann ein Wurf erfolgen soll. In den weiteren Trainingseinheiten wird trainiert, die Bewegung der Abwehrspieler zu erfassen und abhängig von dieser Bewegung entsprechende Weiterspieloptionen zu wählen. Auch die Mitspieler ohne Ball sollen hier das Spiel lesen und erkennen, wo Lücken entstehen und diese dann optimal nutzen. Schritt für Schritt wird damit das variable Angriffsspiel verbessert.
