Handbook of Refinery Desulfurization describes the operation of the various desulfurization process units in a petroleum refinery. It also explains the processes that produce raw materials for the petrochemical industry. It illustrates all the possible processes to lower the sulfur contents in petroleum and its fractions to decrease emissions of sulfur oxides.

This book introduces you to desulfurization concepts, including biodesulfurization, as well as technology, giving guidance on how to accomplish desulfurization in various refining processes. It contains background chapters on the composition and evaluation of feedstocks and includes diagrams and tables of feedstocks and their respective produce. It also outlines how to decide which method should be employed to remove sulfur from different feedstocks.

A practical and thorough discussion of the field, Handbook of Refinery Desulfurization gives you a strong grasp of the various processes involved with industrial desulfurization while giving you pointers on which procedures to use under certain conditions.

Nour Shafik El-Gendy, PhD, is a professor of environmental biotechnology and head manager of Petroleum Biotechnology Lab, Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute, Cairo, Egypt. She is the author of three books on biofuels, petroleum refinery, and biotechnology, as well as more than 85 research papers on oil pollution, bioremediation, biosorption, biofuels, macro- and micro-corrosion, green chemistry, wastewater treatment, and nano-bio-technology and its applications in biofuels and the petroleum industry. She is also an editor and reviewer for 15 and 12 international journals on environmental biotechnology, respectively. She is a member of many international associations concerned with environmental health and science. She is also a lecturer and supervisor for undergraduate research projects at the British University in Egypt, a faculty member of chemical engineering at Cairo University, and teaches an environmental biotechnology course for postgraduates at Monufia University. Her biography is recorded in Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Ninth Edition, 2006-2007.

James G. Speight, PhD, is the author of more than 60 books on petroleum science, petroleum engineering, and environmental sciences whose work has earned several awards in the United States, Russia, and Trinidad and Tobago. He has been an adjunct professor in the Department of Chemical and Fuels Engineering at the University of Utah and in the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wyoming. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Missouri in Columbia, the Technical University of Denmark, and the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
