Godwineson (oft auch "Godwinson" oder "Godwinsson") - eine geheimnisvolle Figur des englischen Mittelalters, welche in der ffentlichkeit sicher nicht jedem bekannt ist. Oder nicht mehr bekannt, als eben jener K nig, der vom ber hmten franz sischen Normannenherzog Wilhelm dem Eroberer 1066 in der Schlacht bei Hastings besiegt wurde und starb, nachdem er von einem bretonischen Bogensch tzen t dlich ins Auge getroffen wurde. Dies liegt wom glich an seiner kurzen Regierungszeit von 9 Monaten und 9 Tagen, einer der k rzesten der englischen Monarchie (Edmund Ironside regierte sieben Monate und 12 Tage), welche chronologisch gesehen als kurzweilige Interferenz zwischen den recht langen Regierungszeiten des "letzten" angels chsischen K nigs Edward dem Bekenner (24 Jahre) und des epochal neuen K nigs der Anglonormannen, also Wilhelm (21 Jahre), gelten k nnte. Trotzdem spielte er eine Schl sselrolle als Regent w hrend der scharfen Z sur englischer K nigsgeschichte um das Jahr 1066. Daher m chte ich in dieser Arbeit die Aufmerksamkeit auf ihn richten. Bis heute existiert kaum Fachliteratur, welche sich im Mittelpunkt mit Harold II. besch ftigt, hingegen gibt es zu Wilhelm unz hlige Werke. St t man bei der Literaturrecherche auf belletristische Titel wie "The Last English ] King"1 von Julian Rathbone, verbleiben im modernen geschichtswissenschaftlichen Bereich neben vielen kleineren Essays die Biographie "Harold the King" von P. Compton (London 1961), H.R. Loyn mit seinem Artikel 'Harold, Son of Godwine' in den anl sslich des 900j hrigen Jubil ums erschienenen "1066 Commemoration Lectures" (London 1966) und schlie lich "Harold.
