The Peoples’ Linguistic Survey of India is a right based movement for carrying out a nation-wide survey of Indian languages especially languages of fragile communities such as nomadic, coastal, island, hill and forest communities.

This book is Part 1of Volume 10 ( Haryana  ki Bhaashyen [Hindi]) of The People's Linguistic Survey of India (PLSI) undertaken and executed by Bhasha Research and Publication Center, Baroda.  

The book contains the information on language and linguistic variety of the Haryana State of India supported by linguistic maps given in the appendix.

The chapters included in this book are:
Scheduled languages - Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi. Non-scheduled languages -  Ahirwati, Kauravi, Bangru, Bagri, Mewati. The other chapters included are Hindi Language and Literature in Haryana, Oral tradition of  Haryana, Folk and Liberal literature in Haryana, Survey of folk and written literature of languages.

Dr. Ganesh N Devy taught English at the  Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda; a renowned literary critic and activist; founder and director of the Tribal Academy at Tejgadh,Gujarat; and director of the Sahitya Akademi’s Project on Literature in Tribal Languages and Oral Folk Traditions. He is an active participant in the functioning of Bhasha Academy. He was awarded the Padmashri in 2014. He is Chair, People’s Linguistic Survey of India, 37, Bhasha Research and Publication Center, Baroda.

Dr. Omkar N Koul, former director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore has had a distinguished career spanning over 40 years. Author of over 50 books, his main areas of academic interest are linguistics, language education, communication and comparative literature. He was associated among others, with several UNESCO programme related to endangered languages and mother tongue education.

Dr. Roop Krishen Bhat, Former professor, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore and Director, Government of India is author of more than thirty five books. He writes in Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi and English. His main areas of academic interest are language, literature, culture and media. A Sahitya Akademi translation awardee and a prominent short story writer in Kashmiri, Bhat has been a Senior Research Fellow of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Dr. Ravi Bhushan and Dr. Daisy Nehra are the Hindi translators for PLSI : The Languages of Haryana. Dr. Ravi Bhushan is Associate Professor of English in the Department of English at Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khnapur Kalan (Sonepat), Haryana. Dr. Daisy Nehra is Associate Professor of English at B.P.S. Institute of Higher Learning under Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Sonepat, Haryana.
