In Henry and the Sea by Pat Gantz, one moment twelve-year-old Oliver, his fearless little brother Henry, and their father are enjoying a quiet, coastal journey. The next, a pirate flag flutters in the horizon, cutlasses gleam, and the three are hauled aboard the infamous pirate brig, Titania.

Life at sea is harsh. Thrust into a foreign world filled with meanness and spite, Oliver toils as a lowly sailor and their father bends over endless canvases in the yardarms and on deck. Five-year-old Henry - small, bright, and utterly unbreakable - somehow coaxes laughter from the hardest hearts on board. But a nail-biting peril closes in, and gambling with Henry's life may demand the greatest risk of all.

Packed with courage, cunning, a fierce love between brothers, and unforgettable high-seas adventures, Henry and the Sea ends in an unusual twist of fate.

Gantz, Pat: - Pat Gantz lives with her husband, Ken, in Prescott, Arizona. As a child, Pat was the proverbial bookworm and developed a fondness for historical fiction. This love of reading later extended to collecting books, especially from the local town's bookstores and museums during her travels. In visiting several seaport museums across the country, in Nova Scotia, and in Australia, she found something amiss, a lack of historical fiction during the not so swash-buckling Age of Sail for middle-grade readers. Inspired by tall mast ships that she explored when these ships were docked at various seaports, Pat embarked on the imaginary voyages that turned into stories about Sailing on the High Seas in the 1780s.
