Zentral ist dabei die Frage, inwiefern Wicca als eine moderne Form von Witchcraft gesehen werden und als eine Religion gelten kann. Au erdem soll beleuchtet werden, wie genau Wicca und Feminismus in den USA, auch in Hinblick auf das Feminist Spirituality Movement, zueinander in Relation stehen. Hierzu soll zunächst eine Begriffsdefinition der zentralen Begriffe vorgenommen werden. Abschlie end soll ein Überblick über Kritik an und innerhalb der Wicca-Bewegung skizziert werden. Wicca ist eine der am schnellsten wachsenden Religionen in den USA. Bei einer weltweiten Umfrage unter 140.000 Personen aus 95 Ländern wurde ermittelt, dass 40% der Befragten angaben, an Witchcraft glauben. Bei einer Erhebung in den USA aus dem Jahr 2021 des Marktforschungsunternehmens ipsos, bei der 1.013 Menschen befragt wurden, gaben 21% der Proband*innen an, dass sie an "Spells or Witchcraft" glauben. Insgesamt ist seit den 1960er Jahren ein gestiegenes Interesse an dem Thema zu verzeichnen.
