Based on a comparative analysis of archaeological and written sources and historical research, this textbook refutes the Eurocentric concept-long established in historical scholarship on the basis of falsified sources-according to which the Turkic factor in the Caucasus region is supposedly not indigenous but immigrant, having emerged as a result of the mass migration of nomadic Turks to the Caucasus during the Middle Ages; that prior to 1918, there was allegedly no concept of 'Azerbaijan' in the South Caucasus, it was borrowed from the name of a province of the same name in Iran, and the name 'Azerbaijan' itself derives from the name of the ancient state of Atropatene on Iranian territory; allegedly, the Azerbaijani regions - Karabakh, Zangezur, Nakhchivan, and Borchali in the Kura-Arax river basin, where a mixed Christian-Muslim population has historically developed, allegedly never belonged to Azerbaijan; Armenia, now situated in the South Caucasus, is allegedly the oldest country in history; the regions of the Kura-Arax river basin-Karabakh, Zangezur, Nakhchivan and Borchali, where Christianity has taken deep root, allegedly originally belonged to this mythical ancient Armenia, and so on.
