Der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit liegt auf der Darstellung der narrativen, vergangenheitsbewaltigenden Strategien der Chronisten. Letztlich geht es darum, die sinnstiftende Intention der analysierten Werke aufzuzeigen und dem Leser zuganglich zu machen.
Contributor Biography - German Stephan Conermann hat Geschichte, Islamwissenschaft und Slavische Philologie in Kiel, Poznan und Moskau studiert. Nach der Promotion 1992 erfolgte vor der Philosophischen Fakultat der Christian-Albrechts-Universitat zu Kiel die Habilation im Dezember 2001. Im Oktober 2002 nahm er einen Ruf auf eine Professur fur Islamwissenschaft an der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitat zu Bonn an. Am 1. April 2003 hat er sein neues Amt am Rhein angetreten. In seinen Forschungen beschaftigt er sich Transformationsprozessen innerhalb islamischer gesellschaften im zeitalter des europaischen Kolonialismus und Imperialismus; mit dem Islam in Indien, Zemtralasien und Nordafrika und mit der Geschichte und Kultur der Mamlukenzeit.
