About The Author

Butön Rinchen Drup (1290–1364), the 11th Abbot of Shalu Monastery, was a Sakya master and renowned Tibetan historian. He cataloged 4,569 Buddhist scriptures and authored The History of Buddhism in India and Tibet. His works emphasized philosophical enlightenment, shaping Tibetan Buddhist studies and esoteric traditions for centuries.About The Translator: Eugène Obermiller (1901–1935) was a prominent Russian Buddhist scholar and Indologist. A student of Fyodor Shcherabatskoy, he contributed significantly to Tibetan and Sanskrit studies. His works include translations of Bu-ston's History of Buddhism and Uttaratantra (1932) and the Abhisamayālamkara (1929). He also published in the Indian Historical Quarterly.
