About The Author

Samuel Satthianadhan (1860–1906) was a distinguished Indian writer, educationist, and social reformer. Born to a prominent Christian missionary family of Vaishnavaite Balija Naicker lineage, he studied at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. On returning to India, he served as a professor and headmaster, notably at Presidency College, Madras. Satthianadhan authored influential works on education, Christianity, and Indian society. He married Krupabai Satthianadhan, India’s first English woman novelist, and later Kamala, South India's first female graduate. His legacy bridges Western education and Indian Christian identity.
