History of the United Panjab offers a comprehensive account of one of the most significant periods in the region's history. Beginning with the geography of Punjab and the advent of British rule, it traces the province's political, administrative, social, economic, and cultural transformation until the Partition of 1947. It examines Punjab under British administration, including the era of the Lawrences, the North-West Frontier policy, civil administration, legislation, provincial autonomy, the Unionist Ministry, the Punjab Civil Code, canalisation, agrarian developments, and the role of the Punjab States and their rulers. It also examines the major religious, political, and social movements that shaped modern Punjab.

The result of years of dedicated research and extensive use of contemporary sources, this volume presents an authentic and systematic exploration of Punjab between 1849 and 1947. An invaluable resource for students, researchers, teachers, and all readers interested in the history of Punjab.

Dr. Bakshish Singh Nijjar, M.A. in History, Persian and Punjabi, and Ph.D., was a distinguished historian and an acknowledged authority on the history, culture, and language of Punjab. He taught postgraduate history for many years and served as Director of the Punjab State Archives. A member of the Indian Historical Records Commission, he also contributed as a Sub-editor to Sikh History, Religion, and Literature in the Encyclopedia of Hinduism (Pittsburgh, USA). The author of numerous acclaimed books and over one hundred research articles, Dr. Nijjar dedicated his scholarly career to documenting Punjab's rich historical heritage through meticulous research based on contemporary sources.
