Sie befa t sich mit den Prinzipien schneller Vorgänge, den be- sonderen Problemen, die mit ihnen auftreten, der theoretischen und praktischen Lösung dieser Probleme und der Anwendung schneller Vorgän- ge, um bestimmte Wirkungen zu erzielen oder Funktionen zu erfüllen. Dabei ist schnell natürlich nur ein relativer Begriff, den wir bei Be- wegungsvorgängen am besten mit der Laufzeit festlegen. Wenn die Lauf- zeit von Teilen oder Feldern durch eine Anordnung nicht mehr klein ist gegen die Dauer des Vorganges, dann sprechen wir von einem schnellen Vorgang. Wenn beispielsweise die Belichtungszeit bei einer photogra- phischen Aufnahme so kurz ist, da sie mit den Zeiten vergleichbar wird, die zum öffnen und Schlie en des optischen Verschlusses ver- streichen, so haben wir es mit einem schnellen Vorgang zu tun. Die Laufzeit für den Verschlu wird hier durch die Massenträgheit der Ver- schlu teile bestimmt. Auch elektrische Ladungsträger haben eine Massenträgheit und bewegen sich immer nur mit endlicher Geschwindigkeit, die oft noch durch Hin- dernisse im Laufraum entscheidend begrenzt wird, so beispielsweise für bewegliche Ladungsträger im praktisch unregelmä igen Gitter eines Festkörperkristalles. Ebenso wandern Felder und Wellen immer nur mit endlicher Geschwindigkeit, und zwar elektromagnetische Felder höch- stens mit Lichtgeschwindigkeit.
