Introduction

Horsefeathers is a story of friendship written by the Author when she was a nine-year-old girl living on a horse farm in Haymarket, Virginia. She shows the open heart and mind of a child who sees no reason that different animals cannot be friends. Her horse and bird want friendship, though their differences make others think it is impossible.

You cannot judge a person (or a horse or bird, for that matter) on WHAT they are but by WHO they are. A child is not born with prejudices; those are learned ideas.

At 9 years old, the Author chose the name of the book based on a horse and a bird, the definition of the word reflects a larger meaning behind the story of friendship. Merriam Webster Dictionary defines horsefeathers as something not worth considering; interjection; rubbish; nonsense; bunk. It is nonsense, rubbish, and bunk to stop someone from being friends with anyone they choose.

It is Horsefeathers.

Blocher, Robyn: - "ABOUT THE AUTHOR Robyn Blocher wrote this book in 1978 at 9 years old for Mrs. Judy Jones' 4th grade class at Gainesville Elementary School in Haymarket, VA. The original drawings were sketched by her late mother and colored by Robyn. Her mother typed up the story so that Robyn could put the final book together with tape, crayons, and love. The character David is based on the state bird of Virginia, the cardinal, while Mike was based on the author's childhood pony, Carbon Copy. After years of sitting in a file folder, Robyn decided it was time to share this book with the world. The Author has worked in the Information Technology Sales field for the last 25 years and currently lives in Colorado with her Australian Shepherds - Leo and Spencer."

Kudyba, Dorota: - ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATORDorota Kudyba started painting at an early age, which allowed her to create visions that were impossible to reach in real life. She graduated from the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Po-land, with a degree in Horse Husbandry and Riding. Digital technology allows her to generate magical, dreamy, and surreal worlds that show the beauty and majesty of horses. In addition, she works in traditional media like pastel, ink, pencil, and acrylics. Currently Dorota lives in Zamosc, Poland, with her husband Hubert, their son Oliver, a dog, few cats and two mares, Begonia, and Anastasia. "Begonia is my guide angel and has never failed me in the 28 years I've had her, but Anastasia- the gray shire- is the muse and feeds my artistic pal-ate'. Dorota beautifully but simply states, 'I follow the horse's path. The horse made me who I am. I belong to them."
