She reveals how it feels to lose your health, question your sanity, and blame yourself while living in a constant fight-or-flight state.

Staying with her husband meant watching her children suffer and condemning them to a lifetime of abuse, first from their dad, and highly likely next from their partner. Her inner voice started as a whisper, grew louder each day, and eventually screamed, "I cannot be married to him anymore!"

Elle Walks' career spans four decades. She has worked as a sales representative, marketing consultant, marketing manager, university instructor, and engineering professional.


For twenty years, she was tethered to an emotionally abusive husband and compartmentalized her life, switching between being a valued professional and an emotionally abused woman. Her managers and colleagues were unaware of the dark secret she kept and the harsh realities of her home life. For years, she dreamed of escaping but feared for the safety of her children. Later, with her children's well-being as her highest priority, she divorced and rebuilt her life. Today, she works as a business consultant.
