HVAC systems are divided into components and controls for air, water, heating, ventilating and air conditioning to illustrate how each system, subsystem, control, or component contributes to providing the desired indoor environment. The reader will learn why one component or system may be chosen over another with respect to design, application, energy conservation, indoor air quality, and cost.

This book also covers heat flow fundamentals and calculations used in selecting equipment and determining system operating performance and cost. Fluid flow fundamentals and equations and fundamentals of system testing, and verification of system performance are also covered in this book. This gives the reader a complete picture of systems from concept to operation. The chapters are organized in a way that one builds upon another, and systems, components, design, and application are revisited as the reader gains knowledge and insight about the workings of HVAC and heat pump systems.

This new edition has been revised and expanded with new drawings to give the reader a complete picture of HVAC and heat pump systems. Along with the Tables chapter for reference, the HVAC Math chapter has equations and example problems for many systems and components operation, energy, and cost calculations.

Samuel C. Sugarman is an internationally recognized HVAC consultant, instructor, and author. He has consulted on and managed projects for design, performance evaluation, retrofit, energy management, test and balance, and commissioning of HVAC systems for cleanroom facilities, colleges, corporate headquarters, fume hood labs, government facilities, hospitals, hotels, major retail establishments, military installations, nuclear power plant, office complexes, private and public schools, and universities. Mr. Sugarman was an adjunct professor at San Diego City College teaching fluid flow dynamics and advanced refrigeration and has teaching credentials in California and Washington. He is a Certified Indoor Air Quality Manager, Certified Demand Side Manager, Certified Energy Manager, Certified ESCO Instructor, Certified Test and Balance Professional, International Training Institute HVAC and Test and Balance Instructor, and National Training Fund Test and Balance Instructor. He has taught over 500 HVAC programs, seminars, and webinars for various organizations including Association of Energy Engineers, ASHRAE, and National Energy Management Institute. He has authored numerous books and training manuals on topics in his expertise and has received awards and special recognition for his accomplishments. Mr. Sugarman is currently the administrator of the International Registry of CTAB Professionals and conducts HVAC webinars for PBJ Tech Hub.
