About The Author

Ruth Arent, M.A., M.S.W., is a well known international consultant on the subject of children and adults coping with traumatic stress. She retired as a psychiatric social worker, closing a private practice of over 45 years. Her articles have appeared in a number of journals and her most acclaimed book, "Stress and Your Child" (Prentice-Hall), was written for parents as well as professionals. For many years she enjoyed teaching college courses and being a consultant. Her unique wall charts on the child and stress, gifted children, and children in a violent society were distributed in Africa, Australia, Europe, and all of the states. Her book, "Trust Building With Children Who Hurt", was an important counseling resource. Currently, she is living in Corvallis, Oregon, where she is a busy activist enjoying participation with the Raging Grannies. She relishes her summers on an island in Maine and is having a great time as a poet.
