La foresta è sempre stata una risorsa fondamentale per i popoli indigeni del Chaco, sia per l'alimentazione come per la medicina tradizionale, per l'artigianato e per la loro vita spirituale. Coi suoi miti, i suoi racconti e i suoi rituali, è stata la base della loro cosmovisione, dello sciamanismo e di altri aspetti della cultura e della società tradizionale. In questi ultimi anni i cambiamenti climatici hanno colpito il territorio del Chaco in modo rilevante. Oltre a provocare ingenti perdite economiche, hanno aumentato la vulnerabilità della popolazione indigena, la più debole ed esposta alle conseguenze dei disastri naturali. Di fronte all'insicurezza alimentare e nutrizionale delle comunità native si vuole rivalutare l'importanza della foresta come una componente che garantisce una sicurezza alimentare in periodi di carestia, soprattutto durante le cicliche siccità caratteristiche della regione. Si descrivono tutti gli aspetti collegati con l'alimentazione ed i mezzi di sussistenza del gruppo indigeno Énxet ubicato nel Chaco Centrale del Paraguay. Si vuole contribuire a migliorare la comprensione del contesto indigeno apportando ed approfondendo le loro conoscenze, i loro sentimenti, le loro abitudini, e le loro tradizioni. La proposta è rivalutare le risorse naturali con fini alimentari che sono parte del territorio e che sono stati presenti nella conoscenza e memoria dei popoli e comunità indigene che vi abitano. Questo non significa un semplice ritorno ad un passato non desiderato, bensì valorizzare le le risorse che le comunità indigene hanno ereditato dai loro avi e trasformarle in opportunità per affrontare le sfide economiche, sociali e culturali del contesto moderno.

Laureato in scienze politiche, dalla fine degli anni '70 è impegnato in progetti di sviluppo in Africa e America Latina. Dal 2006 lavora in Paraguay e dal 2008 vive nel Chaco, dove ha coordinato progetti di sviluppo agricolo e produttivo, di aiuti umanitari e prevenzione dei disastri e di diritti umani.
