Get your students the support they need!

One size does not fit all for helping students with learning disabilities--and it doesn't work for identifying learning disabilities either. This practical, easy-to-use handbook offers a comprehensive plan, guiding general educators, special educators, administrators, and school psychologists through the eligibility and evaluation stages that ensure students get the best services and support they need to be successful. You'll find:

  • Guidance on what data to collect and how to collect it
  • Strategies for combining RTI with a comprehensive evaluation to diagnose SLD
  • Detailed case studies--with graphs, figures, and test scores--at the school, classroom, and individual student level

Dr. Evelyn Johnson and Dr. Anne Clohessy have extensive experience working with students with learning disabilities. Dr. Johnson, current Professor of Special Education at Boise State and the Executive Director of the Lee Pesky Learning Center, worked for the National Research Center for Learning Disabilities before working for the National Center for Response to Intervention. As Clinical Director of the Lee Pesky Learning Center, Dr. Clohessy has been serving people with learning disabilities for 15 years, and during that time has conducted over 1600 psychoeducational evaluations.

Over the last 5 years, the authors have been working with the state of Idaho on Specific Learning Disability (SLD) eligibility determination that includes RTI data with a comprehensive evaluation. This work in RTI and SLD determination has been shared in a variety of publications, including two books published by Corwin Press on RTI as well as Module 6 of the NCLD RTI Action Network′s Field Guide to RTI Implementation Online Learning Modules, to be published by Corwin in April.
