Jose Catalan, Reader in Psychiatry and honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at the Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, University of London and Riverside Mental Health Trust, has been involved in research into the mental health aspects of HIV infection for over ten years. He is also in charge of the psychiatric services for people with HIV infection at the Chelsea & Westminster Hos¬pital which is the largest centre in the UK for the care of people with HIV infection. Lorraine Sherr, Senior lecturer, Clinical Psychologist at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine. An editor of the international journal AIDS Care and Psychology Health and Medicine, she has travelled to Africa, Canada and the USA as a Churchill Fellow to conduct research into AIDS and HIV and participates in numerous national and international research and clinical initiatives. Barbara Hedge, Consultant Clinical Psychologist at St Bartholomew's Hospital and honorary senior lecturer in psychology at St Bartholomew's and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry, is responsible for the clinical psychology services for people with HIV disease at St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Hospitals. For the last ten years she has studied the psychosocial factors affecting the quality of life of individuals infected with HIV and their partners and has been involved in the running of workshops and counselling courses in Africa and Eastern Europe.
