After retiring from competitive chess in 2008, he established a training institute that has become an impressive talent factory with alumni such as Pentala Harikrishna, Adhiban Baskaran, and Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. As the national team captain, he led India to a historic bronze medal at the 2014 Olympiad in Norway.
