In this book, the author elucidates the essence of "In Defence of Liberalism," comprising five topics: The Liberal Doctrines, The Liberal Transformation, The Weakness of Liberalism, New Horizons, and Liberalism and the Future. Invited by the School of International Studies to deliver the Sarojini Naidu Memorial Lectures for 1961, the author pays tribute to Sarojini Naidu's role as a poet, national leader, and advocate for India's freedom. The lectures delve into liberal doctrines' evolution globally, emphasizing individual worth, freedom of speech, secularism, and faith in progress. Despite challenges to liberalism's foundational ideas, the author contends that the new liberalism, adapting to contemporary social forces, will endure as a guiding light for humanity, even beyond its potential transformation and assimilation into broader civilizational traditions.
