Edward Thornton (1799-1875) was a British author and served as an employee of the British East India Company. He held the position of Head of the Maritime Department in East India House. Apart from this role, he authored several books, including "History of the British Empire in India" (1841-45) and "Illustrations of the History and Practices of the Thugs."
