Thomas Maurice (1754–1824) was a British scholar, historian, and poet known for his contributions to oriental studies. He authored several works on Indian history and culture, including Indian Antiquities (1793-1800) and History of Hindustan (1795-1820), where he explored India’s geography, religion, law, and literature. His writings also covered ancient civilizations, such as Egypt and Babylon. Maurice’s poetry, including The School-boy (1775) and Hagley (1776), reflected his literary talent. A keen observer of the East, he produced influential works on Hindu philosophy, religion, and ancient history, leaving a lasting impact on oriental scholarship.
