Dr. Lopamudra Sengupta, is Associate Professor of Political Science, Bangabasi College, University of Calcutta. Her areas of research interest is on human rights, gender studies and feminism in South Asia. She has written extensively on human rights in edited volumes and is presently writing a book on the ‘Third Gender of India’. She has won the Arijeet Mitra Smriti Puroshkar for the best prabandha, ‘Brihanalla, Prasanga Manabadhikar,’ in a Bengali Literary Journal, Dhruba Sahitya Kahan in 2005, at Jibanananda Sabhagriha, Kolkata, West Bengal. She received the best paper Award on India’s Third Gender at Crossroads, A Human Rights Perspective, at the 2nd National Conference on Politics & Governance organised by MDRF, at India International Centre, New Delhi on 3rd August 2014. She has also received the best paper presentation award in the 1st World Asian Studies Conference, organised by The Institute of Knowledge Management at Colombo, Sri Lanka, 2015. Presently she has co-edited a book on ‘Women Empowerment in India, Challenges Ahead’, based on the outcome of UGC sponsored National level seminar held at Bangabasi College on 21st September 2014, Kolkata.
