Schon beim Ent- stehen der ersten Manuskripte wurde deutlich, da diese Konzeption nicht zu ver- wirklichen war. Die Fülle des zu verarbeitenden Stoffes und der zu behandelnden Probleme zwang zu einer Erweiterung, die es geraten erscheinen lie , das Gesamt- werk in drei Bände aufzuteilen. Nur dadurch war es möglich, an der ursprüngli- chen Zielsetzung festzuhalten: eine umfassende Darstellung der Tatbestände und Zusammenhänge, der Planungs- und Entscheidungssituationen und der zu ihrer Lösung entwickelten Verfahren und Techniken zu geben, die nach dem heutigen Stande des Wissens in ihrer Gesamtheit die moderne Industriebetriebslehre bil- den. Jeder Band kann, da er das ihm zugewiesene Gebiet in geschlossener Form be- handelt, separat gelesen werden. II. Im ersten Kapitel wird nach einer Kenn- zeichnung und Systematisierung der Industriebetriebe ihre Entstehung und histori- sche Entwicklung in Deutschland beschrieben. Ein Oberblick über die gegenwär- tige Bedeutung der einzelnen Industriezweige und ein Ausblick auf ihre künftige Entwicklung beschlie en das erste Kapitel. Thema des zweiten Kapitels ist die Standortwahl der industriellen Unternehmung.
