Sandra è una giovane papirologa italiana specializzata in manoscritti del Mar Morto. La sua tranquilla esistenza di studiosa tra Gerusalemme e New York viene sconvolta dall'incontro con uno sconosciuto che le accenna a un'oscura setta ossessionata da alcuni antichissimi manoscritti su cui sta lavorando.
Il giorno dopo, l'uomo viene trovato morto.

"Un romanzo dal ritmo incalzante che, pagina dopo pagina, accompagna il lettore in un'avventura ricca di colpi di scena, in un intrico di bene e male, luce e ombra, spesso difficile da dipanare, soprattutto nel cuore di ciascun protagonista.
Il coraggio misto alla paura della protagonista Sandra di fronte al gioco mortale dei misteriosi Custodi; la deliberata adesione al male di uomini folli d'orgoglio; l'umiltà di padre Joseph, che ben conosce la fragilità (e la possibilità di riscatto) del cuore umano; la purezza dell'amore di Simon, che non teme di rischiare la vita con e per Sandra, l'integrità morale del rabbino Adam...
Apprezzabile inoltre la ricchissima documentazione storica e archeologica (non a caso l'autrice è paleografa e medievista) che dà spessore e credibilità agli elementi di fantasia.
Sono questi a mio parere i risvolti più profondi di un thriller intrigante dal ritmo incalzante e scorrevole che si legge d'un fiato, o meglio, col fiato sospeso."

Ada Grossi (Milano 1971) ha un marito e una figlia, e poi studia, scrive e va in montagna: si diverte così.
Ha cominciato scrivendo una quantità di cose accademiche (che a lei piacciono ma di solito agli altri non molto) e poi ha deciso di costruirci dei mondi, con tutte quelle cose, e anche con altre che ha incontrato lungo i molti cammini che ha percorso.
Il suo romanzo d'esordio è stato "Centoquarantanove anni" (Meravigli edizioni 2016), un'avventura medievale.
Con "Inferno a mezzanotte" torna al presente: un thriller adrenalinico ambientato tra New York e il deserto israeliano.
