Mittlerweile hat sich uberall eine "Informatik fUr Ingenieure" als fester Be- standteil des Grundlagenstudiums an Technischen Hochschulen und Uni- versitaten durchgesetzt; mit Blick auf die uberfrachteten Lehrplane wird lediglich noch die zu veranschlagende Stundenzahl diskutiert. Obwohl es flir Teilbereiche der Informatik ein nur noch schwer Uberschauba- res Angebot an einfUhrender Literatur gibt, das laufend erganzt wird, haben wir uns dennoch der MUhe unterzogen, flir den gesamten Kurs "Informatik fUr Ingenieure" besonders unter dem Aspekt der Grundausbildung eine ak- tuelle und zusammenfassende Ubersicht in einem Buch zusammenzustellen. Wir verstehen darunter die Einheit von algorithmischen Strukturen und der AlgorithmenausfUhrung, d.h. eine Kombination aus den Kerngebieten der Informatik, welche die Theorie und die HintergrUnde zur Software und Hardware umfassen. Die Motivation zu unserem EntschluB beruhte letztlich auf den eigenen Lehr-und Ubungserfahrungen, die wir aus unserer Arbeit an der Universitat Siegen bzw. der Universitat der Bundeswehr Hamburg und den dort angebotenen Grundvorlesungen ableiten.
