Dr. Ghatak had been deeply involved in research and was a fellow of the research group of Prof. R. Scheffold (1973–1975) at the University of Bern, Switzerland, where he developed a new method of synthesis. He was also a fellow of the University of Ulm, Germany; University of Zurich, Switzerland and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich.

Dr. Ghatak’s areas of interest include synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry with emphasis on structural activity relation (SAR).
