Meine zweibändige Ingenieurgeologie lag im November 1943 gerade voll- ständig fertig gedruckt vor, als durch einen Bombenangriff auf Leipzig die gesamte Auflage, aber auch der Satz und alle Druckstöcke, völlig zerstört wurden. Herr Otto La n g e, Inhaber des Springer-Verlages in Wien, entschlo sich sofort zur Neuherstellung des Werkes und gab den ersten Band einer Wiener Druckerei, den zweiten an eine Druckerei in Wiesbaden in Satz. Wähernd der erste Band, wenn auch unter erheblichen, in erster Linie durch den Krieg bedingten Schwierigkeiten noch im Jahre 1944 fertiggestellt und der Öffentlichkeit übergeben werden konnte, fiel der zweite Band mitten im Druck einem neuen Bombenangriff zum Opfer. Auch dieser neue schwere Schlag hat den unermüdlichen Verleger nicht davon abhalten können, die Herstellung des zweiten Bandes nochmals, also zum dritten Mal, in Angriff zu nehmen. Er liegt hiermit nach Überwindung weiterer Schwierigkeiten, die die Folgen des Krieges mit sich gebracht haben, fertig vor, und zwar in einer Ausstattung, die man wohl mit Recht als friedensmä ig bezeichnen kann. Im zweiten Band sind die Untersuchungsverfahren im Feld und im Prüf- raum behandelt. Eingehend sind die geophysikalischen Methoden beschrieben, die in den letzten Jahren für die Ba.ugrunduntersuchungen entwickelt worden sind. Von den Geräten habe ich hauptsächlich diejenigen behandelt, die sich für die Untersuchungen bewährt haben. Sonderausbildungen sind weggelassen. Die Elementar- und Modellversuche werden in Zukunft im Versl1chswesen der Ingenieurgeologie vermehrte Bedeutung erhalten. Deswegen habe ich die Ähnlichkeitsgesetze zwischen Modell und Natur eingehend beschrieben.
