So verändern sich etwa die Bedürfnisse und Erwartungen der Mitarbeiter, Unternehmen differenzieren sich stärker, die Produktlebenszeiten sinken und die Komplexität der Produkte steigt an. Eine Möglichkeit für Unternehmen, auf diese neue Situation zu reagieren, liegt in der Etablierung einer projektorientierten Unternehmensführung. Damit nimmt zugleich die Bedeutung von Projekten für Unternehmen zu. So binden diese langfristig finanzielle Mittel in einem Unternehmen und beeinflussen zugleich den zukünftigen Unternehmenserfolg. Für Firmen ist die erfolgreiche Durchführung der Projekte daher von hoher praktischer Relevanz. Von Unternehmen initiierte Projekte können dabei mit verschiedenen Problemen verbunden sein. So stellen etwa zeitliche Verzögerungen, finanzielle Mehrkosten oder eine Nicht-Erreichung der ursprünglichen Zielsetzungen potenzielle Problematiken von Unternehmensprojekten dar. Es ist somit ein hoher Bedarf von Unternehmen nach Konzepten suchen, die eine erfolgreiche Planung und Umsetzung von Projekten ermöglichen. Das Projektcontrolling stellt einen solchen Ansatz dar, wobei hier verschiedene Methoden und Instrumente zur Anwendung und zur Verfügung stehen. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es daher, die Bedeutung des Projektcontrollings anhand relevanter Instrumente sowohl für den Erfolg des entsprechenden Projektes als auch des Gesamtunternehmens zu analysieren. Hierbei stellt sich insbesondere die Frage, wie sinnvoll es ist, standardisierte Methoden im Unternehmen einzusetzen. Um einen Einstieg in das Thema zugeben, sollen einmal grundsätzliche Begriffe erläutert werden und ein grober Ablauf eines Projektes dargestellt werden. Das Essay soll durch das Aufzeigen
