Manfred H. Gey war Professor für Analytik an der Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz. Seine Spezialisierung sind die Instrumentelle Analytik und Bioanalytik, wobei sein Fokus insbesondere in der Chromatographie (HPLC), Elektrophorese und Kopplungstechniken liegen, die er vor allem in der Lehre und in speziellen Praktika vertreten hat. Nach dem Studium der Chemie an der Universität Leipzig (1975) arbeitete er am Institut für Biotechnologie Leipzig (heute UFZ), an der Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (1990-95) und an der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg (1995-97).
