Kaum ein anderes Thema wird im Zusammenhang mit dem Thema Migration hei er diskutiert als die Eingliederung der Migranten und Migrantinnen . Angela Merkel bezeichnete die Integration der ethnischen Minderheiten dabei als "ein wirkliches Schlüsselthema der Zukunftsfähigkeit Deutschlands" . Maria Böhmer, Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Migration, Flüchtlinge und Integration, deklariert sogar: "2008 ist das Schlüsseljahr der Integration" . Neben der gro en Aufmerksamkeit, die das Thema in der Tagespolitik und den Medien erhält, gibt es auch eine hohe Anzahl von unterschiedlichen Ansätzen und Konzepten in der soziologischen und politikwissenschaftlichen Analyse, die wiederum zum Teil eine starke Rezeption in der Politik erhalten haben. Hier sei nur auf die Diskussion um die multikulturelle Gesellschaft oder die Idee der Leitkultur verwiesen. Ethnische Schichtung als Spezialfall sozialer Ungleichheit ist ebenfalls ein Thema, welches immer wieder in der Öffentlichkeit diskutiert wird. Nicht zuletzt der Dritte Armutsbericht der Bundesregierung von 2008 weist auf die Problematik dieses gesellschaftlichen Phänomens hin. Darin wird auch festgestellt, dass die Lebenschancen einer Person elementar von der sozialen Positionierung der Eltern - sprich der sozialen Herkunft - abhängig sind . Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich einem Aspekt des allumfassenden Themas sozialer Integration: die soziale Distanz zwischen der deutschstämmigen Bevölkerung und den ethnischen Minderheiten. Soziale Distanz wird dabei in erster Linie als sozioökonomische Distanz interpretiert. Im Mittelpunkt steht hier das Konzept der ethnischen Schichtung.
