It takes into account the history of police culture, misconduct, and internal affairs investigations. Identifying three types of cases - administrative and rules violations, misconduct allegations, and crimes and corruption - this brief provides steps for the initial investigation, evidence retrieval, review of the investigation, and further considerations. Appropriate for students of criminal justice and law enforcement officers and researchers, this unique volume is a practical overview of common issues in and approaches to police misconduct.

Dr. Kroll retired as a lieutenant from the New York City Police Department in 2018, after 35 years of service. He received his Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Criminal Justice from the City University of New York, Graduate Center, and an MA in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Professor Kroll joined the Division of Criminal Justice and Law Administration, Western Connecticut State University, in 2018. He has 17.5 years service in the New York Army National Guard as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, performing duties as an instructor and training site operations manager.
