Interpreting Poetry and Evaluating Criticism examines canonical Indian English poetry alongside the works of major poets such as Yeats, Eliot, Heaney, Hughes and Ezekiel, highlighting their influence on English, Irish, and Indian traditions. It also analyses Sahitya Akademi Award–winning poets such as Mahapatra, Daruwalla, Kamala Das and Ramanujan. The book explores mythic symbolism in Hughes's poetry, particularly in the figures of the crow and the fox. Its second part interprets Indian literary criticism, including that of Aurobindo and Narasimhaiah, while addressing themes such as glocalisation and postcolonial decline. It ultimately questions the possibility of canonical criticism, making it valuable to students, researchers and teachers in contemporary literary studies.
