El Sutra del Corazón, muy conocido en Occidente desde hace casi dos siglos, es un diálogo entre Sariputra, un discípulo avanzado de Buda, y el propio Buda, sobre nuestro verdadero yo, conocido generalmente como tathagatagarbha, el veradero corazón, la esencia eterna y el verdadero rostro del nirvana. El corazón al que se hace referencia no es, pues, otro que ese verdadero yo que hay en cada uno de nosotros. Es el origen de todas las cosas y, para todos los budistas, sea cual sea el camino que tomen, el fundamento del Dharma, la enseñanza de Buda. La traducción de este sutra que ofrecemos aquí se inspira directamente en la traducción china del maestro XuanZang (siglo VII d.C.). Se necesitaba un maestro iluminado para abordar el Sutra del Corazón, sin el cual las interpretaciones erróneas habrían sido frecuentes. Esta traducción proporciona una considerable aclaración y una nueva comprensión del Sutra del Corazón, que, al resumir la esencia del Dharma, es un documento espiritual extremadamente precioso. Además de la propia traducción, los comentarios al sutra son un intento de hacer más accesible el significado de esta enseñanza, y para ello nos hemos basado en el libro El secreto del sutra del corazón, escrito por el maestro budista iluminado Xiao Ping-Shi. Estos comentarios son una síntesis del libro.
