About The Book

While retaining the major contents of the earlier editions, this edition incorporates a new chapter on the significance and impacts of Climate Change on the practice of Geotechnical Engineering. Some of these impacts are direct, e.g., desertification, flooding. Others are indirect, e.g., population migration, agriculture. Geotechnical engineers have to be prepared with plans to mitigate the impacts of these aspects. Case histories have been included to illustrate how advance preparedness may greatly help in providing relief and rehabilitation to the people in affected regions.

About The Author

IQBAL H. KHAN, PhD (Bradford, UK), has served with distinction as Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, and Founder Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at JamiaMilliaIslamia, New Delhi. He was also a Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA.

Author of four other books, Professor Khan has many years of teaching experience, as well in research and consultancy on the subject. He has published more than seventy research papers in national international journals. He is the former President of Indian Society of Environmental Management (ISEM).
