Introduction to Show Control explains the practice of interconnecting and synchronizing entertainment technology systems such as lighting, lasers, audio, video, stage machinery, animatronics, special effects, and pyrotechnic systems for live shows such as concerts, theater productions, theme park attractions, themed-retail installations, cruise ship shows, immersive art experiences, museum exhibits, and traditional performing arts.Designed to be read along with Huntington's companion volume Introduction to Show Networking, this book covers topics including cue concepts, triggers and synchronization, cueing systems, show types, and system architectures before moving onto methods of connecting entertainment systems together.An easy to understand set of system design principles is explored, and then a cohesive show control system design approach is introduced and then explored through realistic example systems drawn from the world of live show production.This new book-along with the companion Introduction to Show Networking volume-are the successors to Huntington's now-retired Show Networks and Control Systems (previously Control Systems for Live Entertainment), the industry standard since 1994.

Huntington, John: - A trusted expert, John Huntington draws on four decades of experience in the field and classroom to clearly explain what goes on behind the scenes bringing bold performances to life in real-world settings. Huntington has worked on live shows, feature films, concerts, and installations with major companies and venues throughout the entertainment industry, including: Associates & Ferren, The Metropolitan Opera, Production Arts Lighting, Radio City Music Hall, Thoughtful Designs/PRG, and the Tribeca Film Festival. Huntington has written dozens of articles for industry publications such as Lighting and Sound America, ESTA's Protocol, Live Design, Lighting Dimensions, USITT's TD&T, Theatre Crafts, and over a thousand posts on his blog, www.controlgeek.net. Huntington was a professor at New York City College of Technology/CUNY ("City Tech") for more than 20 years, and through his company, Zircon Designs, does show technology and audio consulting and training. He is a member of IATSE Local #1, has a NYS Class B Laser Operator's Certificate of Competence, is a Subject Matter Expert for the ESTA ETCP Entertainment Electrician certification program, and is an ETCP-recognized trainer. Huntington has a BFA from Ithaca College, an MFA from the Yale School of Drama, is a storm chaser and an award-winning photographer, and has lived in New York City since 1990.
