Introduction to the Natural History of Language (1908) by Thomas George Tucker explores the origins, development, and evolution of language from a historical and cultural perspective. The book examines how language has evolved alongside human societies and how it serves as a key tool in understanding human behavior and culture. Tucker delves into linguistic roots, the relationship between language and thought, and the role of language in shaping social structures. He also discusses the natural processes that influence the growth and transformation of languages over time, offering insight into the deep connection between language and human civilization.

Thomas George Tucker (1859–1946) was an Anglo-Australian academic, classicist, and professor at the University of Melbourne. Born in England, he excelled in classics, earning prestigious scholarships at Cambridge. Tucker was appointed professor of classical philology at the University of Melbourne in 1885. He published critical editions of works like The Supplices of Æschylus and Thucydides, Book VIII. He also authored books on literature, culture, and history, including Life in Ancient Athens and Sappho. Tucker contributed significantly to philology and classical studies, influencing both Australian and international scholarship until his death in 1946.
