Obwohl formale Gleichstellung in zahlreichen Bereichen erreicht wurde, zeigt sich bei der Frage nach angemessenem Verhalten und tolerierten Reaktionen noch immer eine bedeutsame Rolle des Geschlechts. Die vorliegende Arbeit setzt sich mit den sozialen Normen im Bereich von Tod und Trauer auseinander, insbesondere mit dem Blick auf mögliche Geschlechtsspezifika. Die Thanatosoziologie, die sich mit den sozialen Aspekten des Sterbens und der Trauer beschäftigt, wirft die Frage auf, ob und in welchem Ma e Geschlechtsspezifika in diesem sensiblen Bereich existieren. Der individuelle Umgang mit dem Sterben und dem Verlust eines Angehörigen ist zwar stark geprägt von persönlichen Erfahrungen, Herkunft, Religion und sozialem Umfeld, dennoch lassen sich bestimmte Muster identifizieren. Besonders faszinierend ist die Frage nach den Formen der Geschlechtsspezifik: Einerseits beeinflussen äu ere Einflüsse, wie die Erwartungshaltung der Mitmenschen, das individuelle Trauerverhalten. Andererseits spielen innere Einflüsse, wie die persönlichen Einstellungen und Verhaltensmuster, eine entscheidende Rolle. Diese Dynamik wirkt sich nicht nur auf das individuelle Erleben von Trauer aus, sondern hat auch geschlechtsspezifische Auswirkungen auf die psychische und physische Gesundheit der Trauernden.
