issues on Higher Education: Quality Matters is a concise and insightful collection of short articles addressing a broad spectrum of contemporary and critical topics in higher education. The book explores key aspects such as leadership, governance, financial management, faculty competence, internationalisation and institutional autonomy. It delves into the appointment of Vice Chancellors, public-private partnerships, strategic investments and the role of governors as chancellors, while examining characteristics of world-class universities and the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). Emphasising the integration of life skills with professional education, it highlights the importance of quality in teaching, research excellence and harnessing youth potential for national development. With quality as a recurring theme, it concludes with future-oriented strategies that are both empowering and motivating. It serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, educators, administrators and stakeholders seeking to understand and contribute to the advancement of higher education in India.

Dr S. N. Hegde, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Mysore, holds an Msc and PhD in Zoology from Karnataka Univeristy and has made significant contributions to higher education. Prior to his elevation to Vice Chancellor in 1997, he served as Professor and Chairman of the Applied Zoology Department at Mangalore University. During his six-year tenure at the University of Mysore, he initiated several transformative projects, including the establishment of a school of Management Science, securing the UGC approval for a National Centre for the History of Science, and achieving a five-star NAAC accreditation in 1999 the first university in Karnataka to do so. By introducing self-financing courses to boost internal resources, he also played a key role in developing two postgraduate centres. His academic background includes being a Commonwealth Postdoctoral Fellow in the UK and a Fulbright Visiting Professor in the USA. Specialising in Animal Physiology, with secondary interests in Ecology and Environment, one of his notable research achievements was isolating and partially characterising a growth factor from "Pigeon milk"-the food of baby pigeons.
