Die Arbeit beginnt mit der Erklärung allgemeiner Begriffe, um auf diesen aufbauend zum Wichtigen fortzuschreiten. Somit liegen der Fokus und die Aufschlüsselung eher am Ende der Arbeit. Aus der Biographie können wir herauslesen, zu welcher Zeit Joyce gelebt und sein Werk verfasst hat, um den historischen Kontext mit dem Werk besser in Verbindung setzten zu können, wodurch sich die Frage eventuell erklären lässt, was die Beweggründe gewesen sein könnten, für das Schreiben seines Werkes Ulysses. Im historischen Kontext erläutere ich die damalige Situation hinsichtlich Politik, Wirtschaft und Literatur im englischsprachigen Raum (hauptsächlich Irland und England) und parallel dazu in Deutschland, das in den 20er-Jahren noch sehr avantgardistisch war, obgleich sich schon damals die Katastrophe (des 2. Weltkriegs) anbahnte.
