Jeppe On The Hill Or The Transformed Peasant: A Comedy In Five Acts (1906) is a classic play written by Ludvig Holberg. The story follows the life of Jeppe, a lazy and drunken peasant who is constantly abused by his wife and the local aristocrats. One day, Jeppe falls asleep in a field and wakes up to find himself in a grand mansion, dressed in fine clothes and treated like a nobleman. He soon realizes that he has been taken in by a group of pranksters who want to teach him a lesson. Over the course of the play, Jeppe struggles to adapt to his new life and eventually learns the value of hard work and responsibility. The play is a satire of the social hierarchy of 18th century Denmark and explores themes of class, identity, and human nature. It is considered one of the greatest works of Danish literature and has been adapted into numerous films, operas, and stage productions.With A Biographical Sketch Of Holberg By Morris Johnson And An Introduction By W.
