"Jitterbug!" is a celebration of America and the triumph of courage. Plus, you can dance to it. This "dancical" is a fictional love story woven between the lives and times of legendary black entertainers, black and white thugs, and the common man during the Harlem Renaissance. Suitable for readings on stage and in the high school/college classroom or fully staged shows. Annotated for historical context and period slang. Contains map of Harlem circa 1931 of the actual places where the story takes place. A fun supplemental text for Black History Month. Free Teacher's Manual and Student Questionnaire based on National Core Arts/Common Core Standards for DANCE, THEATRE, MUSIC (Composition and Ensemble strands), LITERATURE, and HISTORY/SOCIAL STUDIES are available at www.jittrbug.net

D.C. Copeland's dance/drama "Jitterbug!" won the Jaz Dorsey Fusion Award from the African American Playwrights Exchange. It has had two NYC readings. The first was at the prestigious National Black Theatre in Harlem. The second had dance numbers by Emmy nominated choreographer Jeffrey Page at the New Works Festival sponsored by Emerging Artists Theatre in NYC. Both were directed by Petronia Paley. He wrote the documentary "On the road to Olustee" which is about Florida's biggest Civil War battle. He wrote and directed a TV pilot for a family cooking show called "Cookabunga!" starring veteran stand-up comic Heywood Banks. He also has two YA action/adventure novels out based on his Nokosee screenplays: Nokosee: Rise of the New Seminole and Nokosee & Stormy: Love and Bullets. Both have reaped a fervent YA audience.
