""John a Kent and John a Cumber"" is a comedic play written by Anthony Munday. The play centers around two men, both named John, who are vying for the affections of the same woman. John a Kent is a wealthy and arrogant nobleman, while John a Cumber is a poor but clever farmer. The two Johns engage in a series of tricks and schemes to win the heart of the woman they desire, leading to a hilarious and chaotic series of events. Originally written in the 16th century, ""John a Kent and John a Cumber"" remains a classic example of English Renaissance comedy.1851. After spending his early years as an actor, Munday turned to writing. His literary output includes a number of plays (John a Kent and John a Cumber, two on the legend of Robin Hood, The Downfall and Death of Robert and Earl of Huntington), poems, pageants, several anti-Catholic pamphlets, and translations of popular French romances (including Amadis de Gaul).
