John Albert Wright was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 7, 1934, to Will and Hattie Wright. He is the fourth of five children. The son of a Laborer father, and a Pentecostal Evangelist mother, John developed a love for music at an early age. The family moved to Chicago in 1936, and by age three, he was picking out melodies on the piano. By age five, he was putting his piano teacher to shame. By age seven, he began playing the piano at his mother's Pentecostal Church, which was a store front on 37th and State Street on Chicago's Southside. It was known early on, that John A. Wright was quite gifted with a glorious gift that only GOD can give.
